Faces of diversity (2022)
Photographic portrait series
Faces of Diversity is a camera-based portrait series depicting students of Feldbergschule Oberursel. Conceived as a deliberate counterpoint to AI-generated portraiture, the project foregrounds photographic presence, encounter and responsibility.
The portraits focus on individuality without typological reduction. Each image records a specific person in a concrete moment, shaped by lived experience rather than statistical synthesis. Diversity here is not illustrated through labels, but emerges through facial expression, posture and gaze.
Rather than staging statements or symbolic gestures, the series emphasizes the quiet tension between visibility and self-determination. The portraits resist simplification and refuse narrative closure, allowing difference to remain unresolved, complex and non-hierarchical.
In contrast to algorithmically generated images, Faces of Diversity insists on photography as a relational practice — grounded in trust, consent and physical presence — and reflects on what is at stake when images are made with people rather than from data.
